Forest School Leader

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Outdoor Learning and Forest School project work

Job Overview

​

Your role will be based between Back To The Garden Child Care across all settings as a Forest School Leader. We believe in enquiry led learning and the Forest School Leader will have a very important role in developing a curriculum that embraces nature, the outdoors and is innovative and enquiry led. We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach along with other learning theories and practices.

​

You will be based at the Broadheath site but may work across several settings that are within close proximity to each other, our buildings are light, bright and airy with an excellent range of equipment that will enable you to really tap into children’s interest in the outdoor environment in different ways. We have a large well equipped Tipi that is set up as a designated forest school classroom and this also has its own garden area and allotment section to be used as part of the forest school.

​

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to outdoor learning within a natural environment whilst encouraging and developing children’s individual interests in the outdoors. An ability to connect with young children and it’s important to have a background in outdoor learning and have an ability to develop new concepts using projects and natural materials.

​

Be an inspirational, creative, passionate, and energetic Forest School Leader, and ensuring that the outdoor curriculum, environment and activities are aligned to BTTG values and ethos.

​

Main Duties & Responsibilities

​

Work with the Managers and Business Manager to meet the ethos and values of BTTGC whilst continually using a wide variety of experiences to allow children to have an extensive range of outdoor experiences and developing lots of opportunities for children’s self-expression in many different ways. Develop theories and projects to enhance child led learning.

​

Teaching new skills to staff and children and continuing to introduce a wide range of outdoor experiences that both stimulate and interest the children who attend the settings. Use children’s work to interpret their meanings and add to their knowledge.

​

With Support from the senior team provide in-house training on the Role of outdoor learning in the pre-school curriculum approach and how to influence all staff practice across the nursery using the natural environment. Setting up displays of children’s work and discovering objects of interest and allowing children to explore the outdoors and manage risks in a safe ways to spark new ways of working and inspiration for the children. Being able to speak with confidence to others about Forest School and the outdoors in the curriculum and your job role. Work with staff teams to develop awareness of how to develop learning for children in groups and alone.

​

Keeping your learning environments well equipped, safe, organised and inspirational for young children whilst allowing children a sense of ownership. Tending to the allotment area to encourage children to have an awareness off where our food comes from and how plants grow.

​

An interest in your own professional development and increasing your knowledge of Reggio based curriculums.

​

Documenting children’s learning and sharing that with parents and the nursery teams. Taking part in assessing children’s development and sharing this with parents.

​

Taking part in nursery events, staff meetings and open days. Full responsibility of the forest school curriculum across all our settings, planning a varied and broad range of outdoor experiences to develop theories and projects to enhance child led learning. Ensure the environment is stimulating available to cover a wide Range of opportunities and set up to meet the interest and needs of the children who attend through a range of project work and forest school experiences opportunities.

Work with the Nursery Manager and business manager to maintain good ratings by OFSTED ensuring the outdoor curriculum is always inspection ready, striving always to outstanding status.

​

Ensure that you risk assess activities and put in place safeguards to prevent injury and also make sure you understand safeguarding procedures to keep children safe at all times.

​

Financial

​

Caring for your equipment and resources to enable good management of your budget.

​

Team Work

​

In conjunction with the BTTG team develop strong teamwork and understanding of the companies ethos and vision to develop an outstanding enquiry and Reggio based environment.

Embed a culture of continuous improvement in relation to service, quality and efficiency, and develop strong team working at all levels.

Promote a culture of effective communication and staff engagement whilst providing high levels of parent involvement.

CPD

​

Responsible for ensuring the outdoor learning environment and any staff that work in it supports maintaining continuous professional development and working to high standards.

Ensure that your own CPD is managed to continually develop knowledge and use of new skills and that you develop a knowledge and interest in Reggio ethos.

Safeguarding

​

Responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children that the post holder is responsible for or comes into contact with.

Health & Safety

​

Responsible for all health and safety issues within the forest school outdoor class room, ensuring compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and procedures at all times.

Follow the highest standard of safety and security within the nursery.

Artist in Residence

Nursery Practitioners

Positions available at both our settings

LEVEL 3  - FULLTIME

We are looking for qualified level 2 or 3 nursery practitioners for an expanding business.
